Popular legend has made the false flag operation out to be a skilled and menacing ploy with cunning German spies speaking American English. Their commander, propaganda hero SS Lt. Col. Otto Skorzeny, seemed a mastermind. But the reality was much different, and all the more deadly. The planning and training were slapdash, the mission desperate, its chances slim to none.

Cats, mice, and sitting ducks
Where does Sitting Ducks rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of the best narrations I have listened to. The quality is great but what is most memorable is how endearing the storyteller sounds.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The entire process that brought about the event, unwillingness to stop what was begun, and how poorly it was managed, and hopeless the recruits were left yet the creators felt totally indifferent to their plight.

A 'Real Perspective' Book
The book sets out to bust the 'crack commando' image of the infiltration behind the Ally lines by German teams dressed in American uniforms and driving American jeeps on missions to disrupt the Allies and secure bridges for the German Battle of the Bulge offensive. It nailed the reality of it all home at the end.
