Paige and her adventurous Aunt Glo inherit a country inn from eccentric GeeGee. Finally! They can get into the secret room in the basement that GeeGee kept locked! They discover it’s a wonderful library filled to the brim with mystery books. But more than the room was a secret – it’s a magical place that houses enchanted books.

Paige and Glo find themselves absorbed into the book - smack-dab in the middle of a murder mystery, along with a motley group of book club friends. The people are strange, and they have many secrets. When a dead body turns up, the club will need to work together to solve the case in order to get out of the book and back to their home.

Fun

An enjoyable cozy with some fun twists. The virtual narrator worked well with this story.

Do not like virtual voice! The book would have been much more enjoyable if read by a real person. Story line was different and intriguing.

Fun story!

Pros: The story was really fun & great, I cant wait to read the next ones!
Cons: The AI voice, not so great. the sound of the voice itself was nice....it didn't sound AI & it was actually pleasant to listen to BUT there were many wrong inflections and mispronounced words. I could put up with that, the part I really didnt like was that all the voices were the same so it was very hard to tell who was speaking in the conversation. I almost stopped part way thru the 2nd chapter but decided I wanted to finish the story and I'm glad I did.....it was a very fun story!

Unique story line.

Automated voice wasn’t very good. There were long pauses between some chapters, and in appropriate words were sometimes accented. But the story was very imaginative and likable.

Light reading, narration is lacking

The story is decent, not particularly deep. The narration needs a human touch. The recording should be reviewed and edited by a human. The AI had some mispronunciations, an awkward lack of emphasis in places and it didn't know when some lines were meant to be sung.

Shifting and Shenanigans: Magical Mystery Book Club (Book 1), has Paige and her Aunt Glo inheriting an inn that has a magical library that requires them to solve the mysteries in the books.

Listening to the audiobook just made this wonderful, fantasy book shine more. I admit, when I first started listening I wasn’t sure about the narrator, the voice seemed to lack warmth. As the book went on, I adjusted to the rhythm and tone and found myself enjoying the book immensely.

I absolutely loved this book. The characters are a mish-mash of sweetness, goofiness, young, old, and a talking cat. The kind of group, as a reader, you wish you could join. Zell was my favorite character, a feisty old lady who loved adventure.

The plot was refreshing and so much fun. I mean, who wouldn’t want to live in a cozy mystery book and solve the mystery. There were rules both in real life and in the book that helped to make things connect together. As the group of characters learned how to deal with all the changes happening within their lives, true friendships started to develop along with humor on and off.

The author knows how to tell a story. I’ve read other books by her, and I’m never disappointed in the excellent writing. You can see how much she really enjoys entertaining her readers with this book. I’m hooked, and I can’t wait for more.

A unique take on a cozy mystery

Shifting and Shenanigans by Elizabeth Pantley is definitely a unique twist to the typical cozy mystery. I enjoyed the premise of the storyline, and felt that the book was written fairly well. What I didn't enjoy was the AI narrative. The word inflections were often incorrect and some words were mispronounced. In addition, making no attempt to differentiate between the character's voices took away a lot of the depth that could have been present. Overall, the book is worth reading, but not necessarily listening to.

Creative plot but narration is meh

Creative plot and enjoyable story. The virtual narrator is barely a step above the original Kindle audio narrator. Spoils the effect.

Story was good. Reading inflections were off and distracting. I will listen to more of the series.

fun story HORRIBLE narration

I thought that the AI read might be OK but it was so hard to listen to all the audio gaffs... I liked the story and would have liked to enjoy hearing it! I feel bad for the author.
