In the year 1889, a week after their case at Baskerville Hall, Sherlock Holmes and the newly married John Watson are called to Whitechapel to investigate a grisly triple murder. At first, this seems to set them on the heels of an opium gang meting out punishment for a botched burglary at the British Museum, but they soon find themselves embarking on a mystery that will lead them from London to Scotland to Norway and, ultimately, to the limits of their endurance both physically and mentally.
