The author was intrigued by how a woman who was taught to be ashamed of who she was and to hide parts of her basic nature could somehow find the confidence and bravery to build a life for herself and her children.

Pioneer Family Story
The story drips with the realism of the era as seen through the eyes of family reminisces and facts. The story belongs to Laura who is traced from her birth in this volume. So accurate in language and details of real life! Very enjoyable story.
The narrator does a great job in keeping the listener's interest and she is particularly strong with the children's voices. Her own accent gradually fades away as that the listener becomes accustomed to it and becomes engrossed in the story. Other books follow!
