Lochiel Ogle was born with a red-wine birthmark—and it put her life in jeopardy from the moment she entered the world. Mountain folks called it "the mark of the devil," and for all the evil that has plagued her nineteen-year existence, Lochiel is ready to believe that is true. And the evil surely took control of the mind of the boy who stole her as an infant, bringing her home for his mother to raise.

Historia
For years, the town of Silver Bell, Arkansas has quietly mourned the hospital fire that claimed the lives of nine of its residents—the town doctor, a young expectant mother, and seven infants. So, when journalist Finn Hardwick is assigned the story as part of a national thirtieth anniversary memorial service, he arrives at the town ready to interview its residents, thinking they’ll be ready to share and eager to make headlines. He isn’t prepared for the resistance. Or for what appears to be a collective unwillingness to answer his questions.

If Veda’s mama hadn’t pounded religion into her “the way she pounded the dirt out of Papa’s overalls”, she probably wouldn’t have married Raymond in the first place. It’s the Great Depression, and jobs are scarce, but it seems to Veda that Raymond uses religion as an excuse for why he can’t find work. He can’t work on the Sabbath, he can’t work around crude or vulgar men, and he will not join a union.

Is there really such thing as a lucky charm? The hero of Nicholas Sparks's new novel believes he's found one in the form of a photograph of a smiling woman he's never met, but who he comes to believe holds the key to his destiny. The chain of events that leads to him possessing the photograph and finding the woman pictured in it is the stuff of love stories only a master such as Sparks can write.

Melinda Clayton has done it again.
Would you consider the audio edition of Shadow Days to be better than the print version?
Yes, only in the accents that are true to the area, which you don't get in the written word.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadow Days?
The development of the owner of the bed and breakfast.
Have you listened to any of Catherine Edwards’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, she does a very nice job.
If you could take any character from Shadow Days out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Kay
Any additional comments?
This is an exceptional series, The characters are real with real pro yet. The descriptions of dealing with a mental illness is heart tugging and best describes the reality of anyone who has ever lived with it.
