Resumen del Editor

Senator Ashley Butler is a quintessential Southern demagogue whose support of traditional American values includes a knee-jerk reaction against virtually all biotechnologies. When he's called to chair a subcommittee introducing legislation to ban new cloning technology, the senator views his political future in bold relief; and Dr. Daniel Lowell, inventor of the technique that will take stem cell research to the next level, sees a roadblock positioned before his biotech startup.

The two seemingly opposite personalities clash during the senate hearings, but the men have a common desire. Butler's hunger for political power far outstrips his concern for the unborn; and Lowell's pursuit of gargantuan personal wealth and celebrity overrides any considerations for patients' well-being. Further complicating the proceedings is the confidential news that Senator Butler has developed Parkinson's disease, leading the senator and the researcher into a Faustian pact. In a perilous attempt to prematurely harness Lowell's new technology, the therapy leaves the senator with the horrifying effects of temporal lobe epilepsy, seizures of the most bizarre order.

Torn from the headlines, Seizure is a cautionary tale for a time where biotechnology pulls us into a promising yet frightening new world.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Dylan Baker performs this story of deceit, self-betrayal, and medical ethics with aplomb, focusing especially on character development as the conspiracy unfolds." (AudioFile)
"Cook is at his best when focusing on fascinating, cutting-edge biotechnology procedures." (Booklist)

Great book!

I bought this book because my daughter was diagnosed with seizures. As I started hearing it I realized it wasn’t about seizures but I couldn’t stop listening to it it was an amazing story. Very interesting and it kept me at the edge of my seat!

Thrilling conclusion

It took me a bit to get into the story, but once I did, it was captivating. The ending was unexpected and thrilling.

Riveting book, too much going back to past

As is typical for Robin Cook, he has an excellent premise and storyline, it keeps you glued to the page, or in this case speaker, however he alludes to past books. Luckily, I had already read the book where Wingate first appeared, so I knew the background, but for those just listening to Cook for the first time, they might be lost.

NO ENDING

The author must of got tired writing this book because the ending was horrid. It’s like reading through a good novel being interested in the characters and then the next page says, “and then they all fell out of the sky and died.” End of story. Very weird.

chapters?

good story, however it is put together horribly on here. the chapters don't match up. there is random cheesy music added sporadically for suspense but it just kind of took me out of the story.

Quick exhilarating read!

This is my second Robin Cook read after Coma and I’m officially hooked. His seamless blending of medical writing with exciting drama is very enjoyable. Seizure was an edge of your seat thriller from start to finish.

Poor Story Line

Would you try another book from Robin Cook and/or Dylan Baker?

Although Robin Cook can write decent books, this one is laughable. Don't waste your time or money on this.

disappointed

I was so disappointed with the ending in this book! It felt like Mr. Cook got tired of writing and just picked some kind of ending to get this project over with. I think this book had SO much potential and Mr. Cook didn't really take advantage of that. The whole aspect of using that particular blood sample had a lot more implications he could have used toward the end and with a better ending. I liked it until the end. I even gave it a good rating BEFORE I had finished the book. I have since changed my rating. I really wanted to like this book. I could have put up with the poorly developed female character with a better ending.

Love most of Robin Cook's stuff - not this one

My first Robin Cook book was Charlatans (2017) - read by George Guidall. An incredible book - so I've started listening to some of his older stuff like this one (Seizure). I know this is one of his older books but the narration is terrible (sound effects, bad reader) and the plot has potential but has several side angles that make it borderline ridiculous. Additionally - I found one of the main characters to be incredibly annoying - a non-starter for any book. I can't comment too much without giving away the plot - but if you're wanting to try one of his works, don't start with this one.
