Alan Fearnley stood apart from the mourners at his brother's funeral, uncertain of his welcome in the Welsh valley after an absence of fifteen years. Only Jeff's death in an accident had brought Alan back to the restrictive rule of Aunt Matty, from which Jeff had never escaped.
