Dominic Paget, the earl of Bedford, will do anything to resume spying upon Britain's enemies. Badly wounded, he is put in the care of a beautiful gentlewoman, Julianne Greystone, only to discover that her sympathies lie with his enemies. Yet he can't help but seduce the woman who saved his life—hoping she never learns of his betrayal.

Julianne is captivated by the wounded stranger she believes is a revolutionary hero - until she discovers the truth: her "hero" is the privileged earl of Bedford.

Devastated and determined to forget him, Julianne travels to London. But when she finds herself in danger, it is Bedford who comes to the rescue. Now Julianne must navigate the intrigues of a perilous city, the wild yearnings of her own heart, and the explosion of their passion….

I love the fact that Brenda Joyces' books always have their happy ending. The real satisfaction of reading her novels is the story itself. Each story so uniquely different, although we know the outcome, we must read it and see it through. Once I open her books I can not put them down, and if I do, I have them in the back of my head until I can open it again. She continues to impression me with every novel I read. She is my favorite author.

The main character is imperfect which makes her the most interesting and the most relatable.

I usually love Brenda Joyce's books but this one just didn't do it for me I'm afraid. I just couldn't relate or sympathise with the female lead. She was soooo stupid it was annoying and frustrating.

Usually her books are filled with a good dose of passion and romance but this one dealt more on the French/English politics of that era. It was almost like someone else wrote it and I just couldn't get into it, Infact I wished I hadn't wasted my time listening to it - even though I put it on double speed so I could get to the end.

Was it worth the credit? - No.

Not her usual style unfortunately !!
