Resumen del Editor

Secrets, Lies & Homicide is the second book in the Claire Marshall trilogy.

Claire’s construction company has a celebrity client. Tony Burke is a well-known race-car driver, perhaps better known as a playboy. He wants to restore his family house in New Orleans’ Lower Garden District. When Claire talks him into opening his father’s old studio, they find evidence of an old murder. Within a day, there’s a second murder.

Tony insists the two crimes, although years apart, are connected. Unfortunately, the most obvious link puts him on top of the list of suspects. Claire has been seeing a homicide detective, but her sympathies lie more and more with the chief suspect.

Tony asks Claire to help him track down an old land deal that, he thinks, will lead to the killer. Their search uncovers a web of family secrets and old lies. DNA tests and money trails compound the confusion. Everyone has something to hide, and nothing stops the killer from striking again. Love is dangerous. Truth can be fatal.

An Okay Diversion

I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in a series. I have not read the first book. While there were some references to what occurred in the first book, I felt that this was a stand alone book and can easily be followed without having read any other book in the series.

The mystery itself is two fold -- a "cold case" and a recent homicide -- are they related? Unlike the traditional mystery heroines who actually investigate the case due to police incompetence or indifference, Claire leaves most of the investigating to law enforcement. Because of this, the story includes some police procedurals and thoughts of the investigators as they interview witnesses and discuss the case. In addition to the mystery, a romance or love triangle [one of the police investigators appears to have some interest in Claire and some history is alluded to which may have been covered in Book 1] occurs.

Overall, I felt like this was a Sunday afternoon Lifetime movie -- an okay diversion but nothing that would stay with me long after the closing credits.

Highly Entertaining

Secrets Lies and Homicide is highly entertaining with engaging characters and an interesting plot. Alex Ford does a great job as narrator. I can't wait for the next book.

ENTERTAINING MYSTERY

This is the first in the series that I've listened to, but now want to go back and listen to the first book, A Perfect Victim.

Very entertaining listen, I was drawn into the story and listened to it in 3 days (thanks to an extra-long but more entertaining commute!).

Great characters, thought the story was great, narration great, I'm definitely interested in listening to more, and I hope the series continues :)

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
