Forty years ago Gary Fergus bailed out of a hijacked commercial airliner with a million dollars in cash. He landed in the New Mexico desert and was arrested two days later. But the cash was gone perplexing authorities. Was it blowing around the desert, or had Fergus somehow stashed it? If so, would it still be in a desert hiding place after he served a long prison sentence? And, if he retrieved it, could he spend it? Was it still traceable and too hot to handle. Fergus's dilemma is complicated with the appearance of a woman who is either his daughter or his sister, and later by the appearance of a former fellow inmate intent on finding out once and for all if Fergus has the million bucks.
