Get ready for your next reading obsession, the spicy small-town romance filled with mystery and suspense from the bestselling author, perfect for fans of Elsie Silver and Colleen Hoover.
When I first met Kyler Blackwood, he was a bruised and battered boy with fire in his eyes and nowhere safe to land.
Since the first time he kissed me, he became my best-kept secret, my quiet rebellion, my haven in the storm. Until fate forced us apart, making us pretend to be strangers.
Years later, time hasn't dulled our instant connection, or erased the way we fit together.
We were never meant to cross the line. And tell ourselves this arrangement is only temporary. But with each passing day, the lie starts to feel more like the truth. And, with every stolen touch, Kye feels more like mine. Because some things were never meant to be pretend.
But there are secrets that refuse to remain buried. And some dangers are closer than we ever imagined. . .

Connor and Stella did a bang-up job.
Kye and Fallon embody what a “forever love” is. What "happily ever after" is supposed to mean and feel like. And especially what “meant to be” is really all about.
The journey was hard and painful, but the destination was worth it.
Just as Kye was drowning in darkness over what went on at home, he found a girl in school who would listen without judgment. Who cared. He felt connected to her, and maybe they had a chance to be together… until Kye was placed with the Colsons, and they had to let go of what could have been.
Years later, when something comes knocking on Kye’s door, unsurprisingly, Fallon is there for him, and they find themselves having to fake a relationship. A marriage. Except it’s the least fake of all fake marriages, because, for the first time, everything feels right with the world.
Connor’s warm voice was meant to play Kye. His anguish and vulnerability, his fighting spirit, the love he feels for everyone around him… And yes, the “my wife” moments. His talent is undeniable.
Stella stole the show for me as Fallon. I was enraptured by her voice as the girl with the biggest heart, the one who gives every part of herself to those in need, the one who’s been in love with the same person for as long as she can remember. I was completely in awe of her performance.
And when she voiced children? O.M.G! Perfect!
Every single moment between them in audio was just… more. It’s one of those cases where you love the words, but listening to them takes on a whole new meaning, and you fall in love with the book all over again.
The pain, the happiness, and the love sounded real, and it was clear that together, and with the help of the Colson clan, they will always be able to handle whatever comes their way.
The steamy scenes? Their chemistry and connection made them absolutely perfect!
After listening to all the books in this series, I have to say this was my favorite. And I can’t believe I have to say goodbye to Sparrow Falls, but I’m happy I got to witness Kye and Fallon’s happiness.
They’ll stay with me for a while.
It’s always been you, and it’ll always be you.

Since the first book of this series, there has been something between Kye and Fallon. Though they are technically foster siblings, Kye didn’t come to Fallon’s home until he was 16, and they had already met and fallen wildly for each other. But for Kye to have a home with the Coulsons, they couldn’t have a relationship and had to step away from each other. Instead, they became the best of friends, each other’s person, the one they lean on for everything, but those feelings never went away. When drama from Kye’s past is revealed, he finds himself in an unprecedented situation. To set things right, he needs a wife, and Fallon is there for him as always.
It's a fantastic set up, and so much fun when the news breaks to the rest of the family. And with Kye and Fallon finally allowed to stop hiding their feelings and act like the lovers they are so desperate to be, it’s a huge turning point for them. It’s not an instant change though, there are issues that they have to work through, and with Kye seemingly in danger, he’s reluctant to drag Fallon even further into his mess. But watching Fallon coax him out of his darkness and seeing them finally act on and embrace their feelings is such a beautiful ride.
“You were my safe haven, the place I returned to again and again, even if I could only hold you in the secret places of my soul.”
This romance is an absolute swoonfest! The connection between Kye and Fallon is so beautiful. They are each other’s whole world, they don’t shy away from telling each other how they feel, and watching them finally come together after so many years of love and longing is such a special thing. I was cheering for them, and was so happy to see them finally get to be all that they wanted to be.
“I will honor you every day of this marriage. And every day after it’s done. And no matter what comes, my battered and blackened heart will always be yours.”
“You are light, breath. Air. In my darkest moments, it’s always been you who lit my way.”
“There’s only ever been you. You were all I could see from the moment you walked into my life.”
“I love you. I’ve always loved you.”
“I love you, too. It’s always been you.”
Swoooooooooooooooon!
As with any Catherine Cowles book, the romance unfolds alongside drama and suspense, and Kye and Fallon find themselves the target of an unknown danger which brings another level of intensity to the story. As always, it just didn’t feel necessary, but it wouldn’t be a Cowles book without it, so I knew it was coming and I just concentrated on the other stuff.
The themes of family are once again so strong in this book, and I loved seeing the Coulsons all there for each other and up in each other’s lives. The text chat is hilarious, the sibling bond is beautiful, and there are extra elements in this book which make the feeling of family so, so special.
This is a beautifully written story and a wonderful end to the Sparrow Falls series. There is an epilogue which finishes everything off perfectly, giving us a glimpse of the whole family in the future, and I finished this one with a smile on my face.
I loved it – 4 stars.
I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Connor Crais and Stella Hunter, and they bring a lot of emotion to the story. I really enjoyed listening to this one.
“You’re my person. Always.”
