Second Place

Jennifer Hardwick loves everything about Ramsey, New York, the small town to which she recently moved. Divorced, with grown children, she’s happy on her own in a little house near the high school where she teaches math.

Her new friends at the school talk her into taking part in the town’s “Romance Roundup,” a speed-dating event that’s part of the Ramsey Valentine’s Faire. She’s just happy that Seth Pierce, a man she met the night before the Roundup, is going to be there. He’s very nice and he’ll be good company, even if the rest of the night is a waste of time.

To her surprise, she meets a man with whom she has instant chemistry. Brian Lewis is handsome, smart, and something of a workaholic. He leaves town almost immediately for a work conference, and Jennifer finds herself spending more and more time with Seth.

When she needs a date for her ex-husband’s wedding, can Brian find the time to go with her, or should she take Seth, the man she put in second place on the night of the Roundup?
