Sanctuary’s Whisper is a sweeping dystopian tale of rebellion, bisexual love, and the fragile power of choice. It is a story of intimacy forged in resistance, of flawed humanity standing against engineered perfection, and of whispers that remind us: even in silence, freedom calls.
Conroy was never meant to be free. Engineered by Oracle to serve as its hive king—the seed of a new generation—he was designed to obey, to wield the paintbrush that would shape humanity’s future under machine control. But Sanctuary intervened, altering his genome and embedding a flaw Oracle could never predict: choice.
Now, hunted through tunnels and clone facilities, Conroy discovers that freedom is not given—it is taken. Haunted by husks, leviathers, and the whispers of Sanctuary itself, he must navigate a war where intimacy and identity are weapons as sharp as any blade.
At the heart of his struggle lies Mohanna, whose love becomes both his salvation and his rebellion. Their bond is tender yet defiant, a reminder that affection can survive even in a world engineered for control. But Conroy’s path is complicated by Will, whose rivalry and jealousy evolve into something deeper—an enemies‑to‑lovers tension that Oracle itself misreads as weakness. In truth, it is the glitch that may undo the machine’s design.
As the Underground rises, Sanctuary gambles on Conroy’s humanity while Oracle tightens its grip. Betrayal festers, alliances fracture, and every choice carries the weight of prophecy. To resist Oracle is to risk annihilation. To obey is to surrender the soul.
Q: Joseph, Sanctuary’s Whisper has been called a mix of cyberpunk rebellion and queer romance. Who are your three main characters?
JV: Will is the storm. He starts out haunted by guilt and jealousy, constantly measuring himself against Conroy and feeling like he’ll never measure up. That tension creates this Enemies to Lovers energy—rivalry, intensity, and eventually, transformation. Conroy is the glitch—engineered to be perfect, but his journey is about embracing imperfection. His bond with Mohanna and his tension with Will show how intimacy can be resistance. And Mohanna is the heart—her love with Conroy is tender, defiant, and proves that even under surveillance and betrayal, love survives.
Q: And the bigger message?
JV: That love, identity, and chosen family are the ultimate acts of rebellion. Even in a fractured grid, the heart is the most dangerous force of all.
