Edlynne Brooks is living a double life. By day she owns the Brooks Gallery in Delray Beach, Florida, producing masterful paintings that come steeped in dark imagery. By night she roams the streets bringing terrible individuals to justice. The press has dubbed her the Vigilante Vixen.
But her life as the Vigilante Vixen isn’t the only secret she’s hiding.
Born Elly Brock, the only child of a mother who made bad choices in life partners, she made a vow at eight years old never to repeat her mother’s mistakes by never getting involved with a man.
It’s a vow she intends to keep…until the night a handsome photojournalist named Rex Beach happens upon her taking down a human trafficker, and snaps her picture. After running into a nearby bar, Edlynne has just enough time to change out of her wig and black clothing, and take a seat at the bar before Rex follows her inside.
Hoping to find out how much he knows about the Vigilante Vixen, and with any luck, steal the film containing her picture, she agrees to Rex’s offer of a date. That date, however, turns out to be the first step down a road she’s already vowed not to tread. Not only handsome, but well-mannered, considerate, and everything her late mother’s husbands were not, Rex offers Edlynne a glimpse into a life she never planned on having.
Pushing her to give up her vow, and travel that road, is her best friend Fuchsia; a young woman who’s discovered her uncle’s involvement in a human trafficking ring, and who Edlynne has helped with a new identity of her own. Edlynne fears getting too involved with Rex will not only put her own safety at risk, but Fuchsia’s and her young son Tommy’s as well.
To make matters worse, Harold Sorenson, the man who spent five years terrorizing Edlynne and her mother, has just escaped from a federal penitentiary. Harold’s got a score to settle, because he believes the Vigilante Vixen sent him to prison. And he knows just who she is.
How long can Edlynne stay one step ahead of her ex-stepfather, and how long can she keep her real identity a secret from the man intent on stealing her heart?
