Have you ever heard of the Boy Scouts of America High Adventure Camp Sea Base? No? Well, then, “lend me your ear so you can hear”. This program is awarded to troops from all over the country, to participate in a week-long once-in-a-lifetime experience to be part of the crew of an 80-foot sailboat based in the Florida Keys. I was privileged to participate with a troop from the Detroit Area Council which was awarded a sail in the crystal-clear water of the Caribbean. The staff appropriately checked each of the 22 members for sea readiness for the adventure ahead. Some of the activities included swimming, sailing, snorkeling, making new friends, cooking, mostly seafood, and creating memories to cherish a lifetime. The crew left behind the everyday parts of life and enjoyed a radically different focus with personal challenges. Does this entice you at all? Maybe next year?
