Super powers abound in comic books but not so much in the real world. So, how does the science of superheroes stack up when it’s put under the microscope? According to common knowledge and common sense, superheroes just can't be real. The notion of having superheroes exist in real life are just dumb. Yes, we promise to grow up. But that's not going to stop our childhood heroes from popping up on the silver screen year after year. Heck, it seems like superhero films are doing a non-stop marathon, and they don't seem to be stopping any time soon. Because the truth is, everyone loves superhero stories. And of course they make a ton of money for the producers. Screw the grumpy old people, we've decided to keep our love for superheroes. And they can be real. At least to some extent. Some scientists have come up with neat plausible explanations of the science behind superpowers, which although not entirely the same thing, are quite close enough. So with this close enough knowledge you can act like a know-it-all science guy around your comic geek friends, and inspire your little nephews and neices with tidbits of scientific knowledge while they watch their favourite superhero films. Superheroes, nontheless, offer us an ideal springboard into many realms of science. For the possible, as we'll see, is often much more fascinating than the impossible.
