DCI David Garrick knows what murder leaves behind. He’s been living with it since his sister was killed.

Now bodies are turning up across Kent’s picture-perfect villages — mutilated, staged, and marked with a grotesque trophy carved from the victim’s flesh. As the killings escalate, Garrick finds himself haunted not only by the case, but by visions he can’t explain — and instincts he no longer trusts.

Digging beneath the county’s idyllic surface, Garrick uncovers a network of human trafficking and organised crime that reaches further than any one killer. But with no clear link between the victims and the death toll rising, time is running out.

Because if Garrick is right, this isn’t the work of a lone murderer — and stopping it may cost him far more than his career.

A dark, gripping British crime thriller set in the English countryside, perfect for readers who like damaged detectives, ritualistic killers, and secrets buried deep beneath quiet villages.

From acclaimed screenwriter Andy Briggs (writing as MG Cole) comes a gripping debut crime thriller that rips the heart out of the “Garden of England” to expose its darkest secrets.

A Slaughter of Innocents is perfect for fans of Peter James,JD Kirk, Rachel McLean, and Ann Cleeves - an unflinching psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the final page.

Start the DCI David Garrick series today - and step into the shadows of British crime fiction.

No change in voices amongst characters. Consider this a book reading instead of a performance and it's fine. I would like to hear this series with a better voice. Great story though!

Good story bad voice

I am an agreeance with everyone else I do not like the narrating by a computer. I have listened to many ebooks and I would have to swear that this book series was totally made up by AI. just the way things are said and written in the book that would not be in a normal crime fiction book. what is up with the detectives not having any self-defense guns that doesn't make a lot of sense. every detective has a weapon given to him by his department. specially after listening to two books going into three you really can tell the wording is just completely off. I think that if it is an AI book they need to come out and admitted it but that probably will not happen. I am still listening to all of the books I just get past some of the narration where the words aren't correct.

I do like that the characters lives do follow from book to book.

The story was pretty good. It was the only reason I finished it. The voice was terrible.

Terrible Virtual Voice

Did not appreciate the social engineering agenda or the pitch for open borders-I read books for entertainment, not political controversy. Also, did not care for the virtual voice-it was flat and blatantly artificial. Otherwise, though, the story line was interesting.

I really wanted to like this but couldn't get into it with the AI reading it. There were no voice inflections and it was difficult to know which character was speaking.
