Rupert Brooke (1887 – 1915) was an English poet, renowned for his patriotic and lyrical sonnets written during the First World War. He died at the young age of twenty-seven from blood poisoning, but his work continued to be revered by figures such as Virginia Woolf, Henry James and Winston Churchill.
