When making it to congress means faking a marriage . . . fake it 'til you make it takes on a whole new meaning.

Apparently, conservative Midwestern voters want more than my brains, connections, and good looks to vote me in as a congressman.

That's right, to appear as the all-American family man they want . . . I need a wife. ASAP.

The lovely Odette Hastings seems to fit the bill. She's a wholesome small-town girl, and conveniently in need of cash. I'll give her the money to take care of her elderly parents, and she'll be the political arm candy I need.

We both win, right?

The only problem is Odette is a little too beautiful, a little too intelligent, and way too distracting.

I have to keep my eye on the prize. Because there might be something I want more than a seat in congress.

Voice of reader for female was hard to listen to.

While I really thought the idea and main plot of this book had potential, I felt the author while touching on campaigning could have done so much more with the subject. And I really did not like the female voice. And many thing just felt like plot points thrown in and not fully developed or explored. Like the out of the blue jealousy by male character. It also seemed sexist both for women and men.

I absolutely enjoyed listening to Madden & Odette's story come to life by these amazing narrators!!

Good Story

The story overall was interesting… a little dry but overall not a bad listen. The female narrator was a bit annoying. Makes the female main character appear not likable. The male narrator was pretty good. Closed door romance.

I loved this marriage of convenience story!

I loved this story! It was also fun to listen to it on audio.

The author did a great job of capturing the feelings that Odette had for Madden, from her high school crush to being his wife for the sake of his campaign run. Odette proved herself time and again and showed herself to be a kind and caring person as she navigated married life with Madden.

Madden made some pretty big mistakes within this marriage that really hurt Odette emotionally and threatened not only their marriage of convenience, but also the connection and love that was growing between them.

I appreciated how much Madden grew within this novel. He overcame some misplaced beliefs about himself and got his priorities right by the end of the story. It was great to see how these two got their start after having first met them as an established married couple in the novella, Passion or Penalty.
