Resumen del Editor

A detective faces a horrifying choice between love and duty in this hair-raising debut.

Reminiscent of the best in today's suspense, from Jeffery Deaver's roller-coaster twists to James Patterson's cinematic pacing, Run the Risk introduces a blazing new talent in Scott Frost. As one of the writers behind Twin Peaks and The X-Files, he knows something about creating eerie and atmospheric tension. In this brilliant novel, he gives us a heroine who faces a challenge no one can ever be completely prepared for and a story as urgently and viscerally told as any in recent memory.

Los Angeles homicide detective Alex Delillo works a case that chills her from the start: one with too much ambiguity and far too many surprises. None of the evidence, and yet all of it, seems relevant. A small-time shopkeeper is shot to death. Then a rare, untraceable explosive ignites in a bungalow, hurling the front door across the yard. Finally, a teenaged girl goes missing, her car window smashed, her keys still in the ignition. Even before they tell her, Detective Delillo knows that this girl is her daughter.

Delillo tracks her quarry on a trail of escalating terror toward a fiery showdown that will test her wisdom, her will, and her every skill.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Frost has created a puzzle with razor-sharp edges, and as the stakes grow, he keeps putting new pieces on the table." (Booklist)
"Frost's screenwriting roots (Twin Peaks, The X-Files) provide a solid background as he expertly shows rather than tells how the brainy bomber outwits his pursuers....This, the first in a series, is a jaw-dropper that will leave readers clamoring for more." (Publishers Weekly)

Great Story

This was a very interesting book. Lots of action, drama, and suspense. I would definitely recommend this book, in fact I have already have done so.
My only wish is that the narrator had a bit more energy in her voice, especially in the beginning. She sounded so tired, and spoke so softly, that I had to turn up the volumn a few times. Her style would fit in during the end of the story, but not to start off so tired sounding before the real action begins.

Good Book

This book was great. Not too graphic with the murder description, that stuff turns my stomach! The second book "Never Fear" is also great.

If you like the TV show 24, you'll like this book

The plot has as many twists and turns as 24 and Jack Bauer. When you think it's over, there is one more surprise around the corner. THis was the 1st book I listened to by SCott Frost and I got hooked, 9 hours went by fast... perfect for that long flight overseas!

not good

This audio was difficult to finish, it had more bomb detail than story. Predictable.

Ran the Risk and Lost

If I could, I wouldn't give this book any stars at all. It was such a disappointment that I didn't even finish it. For the first time in all the books I've bought from Audible, I'm considering asking for a refund. The heroine set herself up as knowing nothing about her 17-year-old daughter and despising herself for it. Her whingeing was perfectly portrayed by the limp reading style of the narrator, who read with little or no "character," and then whispered when things got serious.

While the plot had some points of interest, they were heavily disguised and hard to believe because they were coated with layers of the heroine's feelings. The main thrust of the book seemed to be to surround the heroine with adoring males who argued only enough to delay when time was of the essence and then give in to her decisions. I don't believe any police department would have granted her the privilege of running an investigation wherein her family was so closely involved. As for the ending (I skipped ahead), it was as unsatisfying as the part of the book I listened to. She whinged to the end.

pathetic & unbelievable

A whining homicide lieutenant and dysfunctional mother stays on a case involving danger to her daughter. Very unprofessional. Also, it would have saved us all money and irritation if she’d just gotten off of the case. The author tries to pull our strings with stupid ploys and fake emotion. Another reviewer liked the plot twists; I felt they were so stupid and contrived I was continually annoyed and couldn’t believe the whining and ineptness could continue for so long. Please start a turkey category.

Too Long

Interesting concept using the Rose Parade as the background for a serial killer but the story dragged on and on. The author could have written a really exciting story if it had been about half as long. Also the narrator sounded as though she was either sleepy or depressed- it made it hard to really like the protagonist. Too bad.
