Acerca de esta escucha
A memoir sauteed in Hollywood stories, world travel, and always, the need to belong
Prolific cookbook author Brigit Binns's coming-of-age memoir—costarring her alcoholic actor father Edward Binns and glamorous but viciously smart narcissistic mother—reveals how simultaneous privilege and profound neglect lead Brigit to seek comfort in the kitchen, eventually allowing her to find some sense of self-worth.
In the old Hollywood of her childhood, Brigit seems to live in an elite world. But when her parents eventually divorce—her father flees and her mother sends her off to boarding school so she can more easily conduct her decades-long romance with a married California governor—Brigit racks up seven schools and a host of bad decisions before the age of sixteen.
Marriage to an Englishman takes her across the pond and to professional cooking school. But when that life comes crashing down, she returns heartbroken and alone to Los Angeles eighteen years after vowing never to return. Here she thrives, cold pitching herself to top chefs as coauthor for their cookbooks. Peppered with humor and seasoned with optimism, Brigit's story is an entertaining tribute to female resilience.

A Delicious Adventure
I really enjoyed this memoir written by local author, Brigit Binns. Her hunger for independence from her less than perfect parents leads her to numerous foreign countries. Always eager to taste, shop for, and prepare local foods celebrating the culture around her. I appreciated (and enjoyed) her honesty regarding her privileged upbringing. Recognizing she was born with a bit of a sliver spoon, she sheds that persona with her determination and love for cooking. She's quick to replace the silver spoon for whatever the recipes calls for! I listened to the audiobook- read by the author, always feels so much more personal. I recommend going the audiobook route!

A life lived fully and deliciously
Brigit is a true icon of our beautiful and beloved community here in the Central Coast of California. This story of the art and survival of growing up is masterfully written. I was completely enthralled with this book with all of the twists, turns, ups, and downs of a woman navigating this task without much if any help or guidance from her parents and other elders. Brigit’s writes with richness, delectability, and depth that is only matched by the recipes she has written in her many cookbooks. Please do yourself a favor and pick up this book. It will delight all of your senses and grab your heart.
