The story follows Destiny, a self-centered woman who runs a company called Revenge Fairy, specializing in enacting vengeance on others. After being run over by an angry woman in a red sports car, Destiny dies and finds herself in purgatory, where she learns that her soul hasn’t evolved over multiple lifetimes and faces the threat of erasure. To escape this fate, she disguises herself as a fairy godmother and returns to Earth, appearing in a woman named Megan’s bedroom with a magic wand in hand. Destiny attempts to use her newfound powers to keep her disguise intact with real intentions of claiming back her life, all while being pursued by higher beings who want to erase her.
The story is fast-paced and as unpredictable as its impulsive, self-centered protagonist. The writing is fresh, witty , and straightforward, making the short novel one that can be easily enjoyed in a single sitting. In addition to all the satire, the novel delves into profound themes such as abuse of power, karmic consequences, redemption, and the analysis of personal growth. By combining dark, fairytale-like fantasy and satirical humor, the author also creates a narrative that is simultaneously thought-provoking and humorous.
Destiny is an extremely flawed, selfish, and unlikable protagonist. Despite all this, readers will still find an abundance of humor in her manipulative dialogue and quick-thinking wit that manages to keep her from being caught for most of the story. After many lifetimes of showing no soul growth and now at risk of being erased, she's finally out of options and is forced to do some serious self-reflection.
Through her growth, the story presents a thought-provoking analysis of the ramifications of vengeance and the possibility of transformation, even for the most flawed individuals. As most of Destiny's growth comes at the end of the story, after she’s caused much havoc and her situation becomes increasingly hopeless, it’s still difficult to empathize with her or find her overly redeemable.
On the positive side, the quirky side characters offer more insight into her character, along with some comic relief to Destiny’s path of chaos. There's her spiritual social worker, who is determined to put an end to her selfishness; a naive angel who is sent to find her and becomes enamored with the delights of experiencing life in a human body; and her exhausted spirit guide, who’s ready to throw in the towel after watching her destructive actions for decades. It all adds up to a satirical farce of a fantasy tale that will have readers intrigued, smiling, and laughing out loud.
It should be noted that the book also contains some mature themes that may be triggering, including violent outbursts, the concept of purgatory and punishment, and emotional turmoil. These elements assist in the story’s exploration of Destiny’s personal growth and the ramifications of her actions.
Overall, Revenge Fairy: Not Your Average Fairy Godmother is a great option for those who enjoy dark, whimsical fantasy and fairytale-like stories. The unique world-building and quirky characters add to the entertainment value of the story and also make it stand out. If a satirical fantasy with paranormal elements and thought-provoking themes sounds intriguing, then add this one to your immediate reading list!

She escapes from her fate by stealing a magic wand and pretending to be a fairy godmother! And, here the fun begins! Destiny is truly unlikable, self-centered and shallow, full of anger at her situation. She "uses" the magic wand to cause havoc wherever she goes and this could be her downfall.
This is a fun book, full of humor, great characters and magical situations. It's a quick read and I wanted to see if Destiny was finally going to learn anything and be able to move on or have her soul erased due to her attitude.
The narrator did a great job and added a lot to the story.
