Resumen del Editor

Inspector John Rebus has messed up badly this time, so badly that he's been sent to a kind of reform school for damaged cops. While there among the last-chancers known as "resurrection men," he joins a covert mission to gain evidence of a drug heist orchestrated by three of his classmates. But the group has been assigned an unsolved murder that may have resulted from Rebus's own mistake. Now Rebus can't determine if he's been set up for a fall or if his disgraced classmates are as ruthless as he suspects. When Detective Sergeant Siobhan Clarke discovers that her investigation of an art dealer's murder is tied to Rebus's inquiry, the two - protègè and mentor - join forces. Soon they find themselves in the midst of an even bigger scandal than they had imagined - a plot with conspirators in every corner of Scotland and deadly implications about their colleagues. With the brilliant eye for character and place that earned him the name "the Dickens of Edinburgh," Ian Rankin delivers a page-turning novel of intricate suspense.

Good Read (Listen?)

A good book but somehow not as compelling as other Rebus stories that I have listened to. Still, overall it was good with many twists and interesting characters.

Favourite Rebus story yet!

I love all the Rebus novels by Ian Rankin but this one was my fave. It would make such a great movie. The character development, the way the two cases intertwined, the partner relationship between Clark and Rebus—perfectly crafted and narrated. Did not want it to end!

Best Rebus novel

Resurrection Men is very possibly Rankin's best Rebus novel, and Macpherson makes the book even more fun. All the stars.

another good book in the series

it's always difficult when someone new does the audio but maybe it's because I'm an American gringo that Mr McPherson's differentiation between the characters was really hard for me to catch in my ear.
also to be fair audio books are really difficult anyway. the story was good and fun and it was good to see further character development and hopefully it'll continue in the next book in the series.

Another Tour de Force for Ian Rankin

Having read this a decade ago, and now listening to all of the Rebus novels in sequence, Rankin’s story is as fresh as the first time, with complex, intersecting plot lines that were better the second time around and far better when the novels are experienced in sequence. The characters’ development make them all increasingly interesting and well-rounded, especially the working relationships between Rebus, Siobhan Clark, and Gill Templar. But the best, by far, is the on-going and developing relationship between Rebus and Morris Gerald (Big Ger) Cafferty which expands to new levels in Resurrection Men. Of the various readers who narrate or read Rankin’s novels, this man is the best – capable of bringing life and different shadings of voice and emotion to each of the characters in the story, not a simple task for a book that draws on so many.

Great story; not easy to understand the Scottish accents

Agree that was great story. But wish he bought print instead of audio. Some of the strong Scot accent of narrator and the names tough to follow.

Inspector Rebus in Scotland

This was the first one of this series that I have listened to. It is a different kind of book for me, took me a bit to get into it, but once I did, I was hooked. Every kind of double cross imagined has Rebus wondering if he is doing the right thing pursuing drug dealers among his classmates. You need to listen carefully to get the full "flavor" of this atmospheric tale.

Another great story from the Rebus series

I really enjoy the human frailties apparent in all of Rankin's Rebus series. The story and narrative are easy to follow but have enough twists and turns to keep interest.
The narrator is excellent.

The best Rebus novel, so far

This is, by far, the most intricate and puzzling of the John Rebus novels, thus far through the series. The story has so many branches, all woven together in interconnected ways, linking old characters with new ones. The layering of deceptions is only the first of many ways the author keeps the reader guessing. I guarantee you won’t guess how it ends.
