What happens when artificial intelligence doesn’t just change work but eliminates it? Not someday. Now.

Nicolas Chaillan served as the first Chief Software Officer of the U.S. Air Force and Space Force. He watched the shift happen inside the Pentagon—then built it himself, running thirteen AI agents for roughly $200 a day to replace work that once required a full team.

Replacement is a firsthand account from someone who built the systems, saw the disruption coming, and is now sounding the alarm. This is not a warning about the future. It’s a dispatch from the present. And a survival plan for your family.

The book begins by establishing the author's credibility through real-world experience and documented results. This isn't a book built on opinions or theory. It is grounded in experience with a proven track record of success. That foundation makes the advice both trustworthy and highly actionable. The recommendations are clear, practical, and immediately valuable for today's professionals and parents.

I don't often take the time to rate or review books, but this one earned it. It was well worth my time, and I believe it will be well worth yours. Whether you choose to read it or listen to the audiobook, I highly recommend it.

Words of wisdom from a voice of experience

I don’t like reading books from people who haven’t done the thing. Nicholas Chaillan did the thing. I’ve been in the Air Force as a developer for 4 years, and now I’m separating from the enlisted force at 22 years old. I want to build my own defense company with all of my agents running on Mac Mini’s from my apartment, and this supports the mindset of entrepreneurial ambition I need.

I believe what he is saying is true
