Resumen del Editor

A deliciously wry, edge-of-your-seat memoir of making a fortune with card counters across a wide swath of blackjack in America

At 24, Josh Axelrad held down a respectable and ominously dull job on Wall Street. Adventure was a tuna fish sandwich instead of the usual turkey for lunch. Then one night, a stranger at a cocktail party persuaded him to leave the nine-to-five behind and pursue an unlikely dream: the jackpot. The stranger was a blackjack card counter, and he sold Axelrad on the vision of Vegas with all its intrigue, adventure - and cash.

Repeat Until Rich is Axelrad's taut, atmospheric, and darkly hilarious account of ditching the mundane and entering the alternative universe of professional blackjack. Axelrad has one thing in common with his team: they all thrived in the straight world, found success boring, and vowed to make life more exotic. Axelrad adopts Jon Roth's "repeat until rich" philosophy - and from his strategy and skill spring hasty retreats across casino floors, high-speed car chases, arrests on dubious grounds, and the massive cash paydays that make it all worthwhile.

Filled with actual bad guys, chase scenes, and high stakes, Repeat Until Rich offers an intoxicating, unprecedented view of the dangerous allure of living off the cards and one's wits.

refreshing honest look at a professional gambler

I was skeptical of this book at first but something about the authors descriptions made me keep listening. There are twists and turns and I think anyone who's into poker or risk or gambling at all will enjoy it

The truth revealed

I bought this book thinking it would be an exciting book about blackjack. It is that. It’s also unvarnished look into the myth that professional gambling is different from just gambling. The addiction hides in every deck of cards. The writing is great and so is the reading. If you think you want to try card counting, buy this book first.

excellent story

This was a lot better than I expected it to be with a unexpected twist. His reading of this story alone is worth the listen.

Just ok

Similar story to Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich, but with lower highs and sadder lows. Better to read that book

Future card counters must read

Great book to see into the life of a card counter. I’m getting into it myself and it’s grounding to read this

First half was great the 2nd half I half listened

basically just like I wrote above I found the card counting in Vegas and throughout the country extremely interesting especially having lived in most of the city talked about but the going back to New York for the poker addiction maybe it was because it was audio but listening to 12 minutes of poker buy ins put me to sleep.

Twisted

Really like this story as It it took a unique turn at the end but certainly complemented the overall performance. It was great that the author was also the narrator as he was well spoken and on his game. Highly endorse this book if you love gambling! Even if you don't.

Exceptional

The author, even while working through the story as it is written, has thought out this book meticulously. I think this is an excellent read. I would say that the story does get a bit stale from around chapters ten to twenty - but overall, this made no effect on my experience. The book gave me memories of NYC and Vegas, as well as exceptional detail and recognizance. It’s honest, brutal, vivid - and well worth a read. My favorite bit was chapter thirty-seven.

A nihilistic, comedic, brilliant, and sad book

Repeat Until Rich has been my favorite book about card counting yet. The book involves both triumph and tragedy. Ultimately it is a story without a happy ending. The author has many hilarious observations on life from a nihilistic perspective that read like lines from Fight Club or American Psycho. The book is very real and doesn’t involve the absurd fabrication of card counting stories used in books like Bringing Down the House and Busting Vegas. The last hour of the audiobook is genuinely hard to listen too and you hear the way a poker addiction consumed this mans life and left him a failure. If you want to hear stories of adventure and the achievement of greatness in professional gambling mixed with stories of great sadness, failure, and sorrow all from a Fight Club style nihilistic perspective of a societal outsider and anarchist then you will enjoy this book. For a someone like myself who wants to become a card counter this book was both a guide map as well as a dangerous warning of what could go wrong. Repeat Until Rich is one of my favorite books of all time.

Not good

This book was so annoying to listen to. The reader, who is also the author, is this smug liberal who has never held down a job. If you’re looking for a similar book but 10 times better, listen to The Blackjack Life.
