It's a continuation of the Freddy Otash series but to me it's the weakest of the three

I love James Ellroy novels but this one didn't capture my attention the way the other Freddy O and LA Quartet novels did. Maybe it's me. I loved The Enchanters in particular and also Widespread Panic so it's not the characters or setting that missed. These things are subjective so if you like Ellroy and like the Freddy O story line it's not bad, it just didnt electrify me like the others did

Last 2 books were better...

I always enjoy Ellroy, but this felt all over the place. It was okay, just not his as good as other books.

A Crushing Disappointment from one my favorite writers

What a terrible, one note, and BORING book, my god is it BORING. Who are any of these people? Why do I care? Why are we still talking communism in 2026?!? I never would have believed Ellroy was capable of writing a book this relentless terrible, but sadly he has proven me wrong with Red Sheet. And Fred Otash was a corrupt cop who became a shakedown artist later in life period. The man was not a hero or even an anti-hero. He’s the same guy Ellroy formerly portrayed as having been deeply involved not 1 but 2 different political assassinations for crying out loud. God what a terrible book…
