Acerca de esta escucha

In the fall of 2012, scientists at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland, embarked on a series of high-energy experiments. No one knows exactly what went wrong, but in the blink of an eye, thousands of possible universes all condensed into a single reality....

Between a desert and a dried up sea lies the town of Watering Hole, the only oasis for miles and the home of our intrepid heroes Shaani and Xoota. After some rather harrowing adventures in the desert, they are followed home by a swarm of empathic earwigs. As if a psychic bug infestation weren't enough, the town's water supply has suddenly died up. Where there was once fresh water to spare, there is only a trickle of brackish sludge. Theorizing that the water came from a source beyond the desert, Shaani proposes an expedition to re-establish the town's water supply. Xoota, of course, is voted to go with her. Crossing the desert has never been done - and with water in short supply, the task seems impossible. But the ever-helpful Shanni appeals to the town patron Benek, and his love of cryogenically frozen brides, to back the project. What follows is the adventure of a thousand lifetimes.

Captures Gamma World well, and the 7th edition Easter eggs were fun. Narrator makes a good story even better.

This tale is set in a post-apocalyptic world that is reminiscent of the Road Warrior movies. The main characters, a tenacious lab rat genius and a quoll scavenger, both are females of their specie mutated by radiation to the point that they walk & talk like humans sprouting new mutations daily which only last for a few days at most. Battling giant savage Razorback pigs who want to eat them & take all their stuff, they must travel 1000s of miles to the coastline across the barren wastelands to save their town's water supply that has started turning to saltwater only to find themselves dragged into a plot to destroy all mutant kind and reclaim the Earth for humanity.
This might sound like a crazy story but you haven't even scratched the surface. This story is wacko but not terrible. I actually enjoyed it. Well narrated by Amanda Carlin, this is a story for all age levels, both educational and unpredictable. The Author, Paul Kidd, is never boring.

Wacko!

I don't write many reviews. But this story was amazing. The Characters just came to life.

WOW! Amazing!

I like sci fi, but every book out now is all about big ships battling it out jumping through space wherever. Once in a while something a little different comes out. But this has everything that made sci fi great. The story, the characters, and the world, feel fresh and new. This is the only book have listened to three times, in many, many years.

Also, if Gamma World were a living breathing world instead of game, this would be it. I loved Gamma World, but everyone else was playing D&D. You don't need to know anything about the game to understand this story. In fact the story is kind of how the game should be played if you have a really good GM.

I really, really hope that Paul Kidd gets to pen more of these adventures. It would be great to know what happens with our super mutant team next.

The narrator is great too, she makes it easy to know which person is speaking, the voice is clear and well understood, keeps you engaged, and really tells the story. Wigwig is the best voice.

I can't even remember much about the first book, but this one will stay with me for awhile. I highly recommend this book.

A GIANT story about mutant animals.

Awesome performance by Amanda Carlin. The story was fun while providing a dose of mystery. Read it.

I've followed Gamma World's 7 "mutations" from the 80's to now. This is the first time sitting back and enjoying a perfect depiction of the game without actually Game Mastering. This version of GW, featuring, the Big Mistake, is my favorite. The author did an amazing job conveying aspects of the game and that setting (the monsters, the Alpha Mutations and Omega Tech, etc.). The pacing, the scene descriptions... On Point! The narrator put a cinema in my mind's eye. The perfect mixture of absurd humor, wonderment, and thrilling scenes. My sincere thanks to all involved.

A Perfect Picture of D&D Gamma World

Most DnD/Roleplaying adaptations try to steer clear of the 'party' and the 'quest'. This book embraces it and gives us a tale of exploration and friendship with lovable characters (and one not so lovable). Thoroughly enjoyed it and wished there would be more.

This is a fun tale and a very enjoyable listen

Very well written. The narrator really brought out the characters. The story was very interesting, I don’t know why there aren’t more gamma world books, it’s a very interesting world setting, depicted in both books.

More Gamma World stories like this please!

Paul Kidd has written an incredibly entertaining adventure featuring characters that are as strange as they are familiar. The reader, Amanda Carlin, is well-suited to this story. She's absolutely one of the best readers I've heard - her mastery of conveying the book's tone, character accents, and overall brilliance is addictive. I genuinely hope readers far and wide who enjoy this sort of imaginative escapism will purchase this book

Any additional comments?
Please give this a try. And don't leave it sitting in your library for months, as I did. It is worth your time.
