When Alexei seeks the help of a ghost to deal with a swaggering bully, he gets the strength and confidence he hopes for. If in the process, he hurt his best friend Sol, well, he can make it up to the wolf later. Things get worse when the ghost, an old Siberian soldier, demands that Alexei give up his gay life, which Alexei fled his home country for. The young fox is resolved to send the ghost away--until his sister, left behind with their abusive parents, falls into mortal danger from which only the ghost can save her. Now Alexei must choose between living the life he risked everything to have and rescuing his beloved Caterina from death...or worse.

Red Devil follows the characters from the acclaimed book Green Fairy in a brand-new adventure.

This is the best installment of the three books in this series. Whereas Sol's naivete was important to the Green Fairy, it did start to wear on the reader after awhile. Alexei is such a refreshing protagonist. Mixing themes of trauma from family with trauma from country, Gold widens the appeal of this series really masterfully. There was a lot of risk that it could be a tired retelling of Green Fairy, but Alexei's ghost couldn't be more different than Sol's. Highly recommend.

A great sequel and an intelligent twist

I did encounter several playback/ editing errors that made the story hard to follow at times, but it still was good overall.

good overall

This audiobook exceeded my expectations, even surpassing the prior one for Green Fairy.

The narrator's performance was wonderful, and really brought to life each individual character's voice and mannerisms.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in the gay themes of the story, even if they're not already interested in the furry nature of the book.

A fantastic modern day ghost story

This is probably a good book but the narrator makes it boring I dunno if it’s supposed to set atmospheric conditions but like just didn’t get into it

It is difficult to put how much I enjoyed this book into words. Kyell has put so much emotion, such remarkable world building, especially given how little of the world there is in the story. Like Green Fairy, I read the book many years ago, but came back to it as I essentially rediscover these books through the audio book format and it was honestly like coming back to them the first time. I know this series last had an entry nearly 10 years ago now at time of this review, and to be honest they have done so well enough that they don't need anything else to complete them.

I have yet to read or listen to White Angel, but look forward to it, so I don't know at this time what the close to the series is to be. Even so, it is very hard not to want to spend more time with Alexei, Sol and Meg. I want to see Alexei and Mike see things through and if Alexei has success given Mike's help with the law. I want to see what the next steps Sol take going to college, a whole new world open to him filled with new experiences. And I want to see Meg come to her own, even though she doesn't need much help carving her own path, I can see how much these three rely on each other at this time. As I said, I think that if this series ends with White Angel, even though I haven't read it yet, I am certain that the proverbial book can be closed on the series, especially considering their respective spirits have been respectfully laid to rest, but that doesn't mean I don't want for more.

Finally, I want to sing praises to Jay Maxwell's narration for both Green Fairy and Red Devil. I am not looking forward to going to White Angel seeing that Maxwell did not finish the trilogy. His voices for each character were deep and rich, breathing life into Kyell's literary imagination. The care and effort that Jay put into the emotions of each character, big and small, brought these two novels to the next level and afforded me a brand new experience even though I read the books years prior. His southern drawl from Sol and Meg were to die for (personally) and the 'Siberian' accents for Alexei and Konstantin among others brought these characters right before me, their individual personalities and quirks shining through. I hope that Jay comes back if Kyell happens to bring the series back or comes out with a new series, because he truly brought these words to life. Should this be the last I hear from his narration, I'm thankful that I was able to be along for this ride that Kyell built and Jay helped breath life into.

A fantastic sequel full of meaning.
