In Syria, Russian and Syrian forces use chemical weapons against a rebel-held village, killing most of a French special operations team. France declares its intent to invade Syria and remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power. Russia, intent on keeping Assad in power, gives the Syrian air force advanced fighter jets to help stave off the French assault. Speaking out against corruption cost American fighter pilot Antoine Hill his career in the U.S. Air Force. But when France faces defeat in the face of Russia's advanced planes, the French turn to the disgruntled Hill to assemble a team of retired American pilots to retake the skies. Among their number is a woman who quit the service over sexism, a good ol' boy whose boorishness is equaled only by his flying skills, and a transgender pilot kicked out of the Air Force by a change in policy. Together, Hill's team will go toe-to-toe with the greatest aces of the Russian air force, made famous by their victories over the French. Along the way, they will confront the tragedies and complexities of the Syrian civil conflict and 21st century warfare.
