Ten years ago, Theodora “Teddy” Angstrom’s older sister, Angie, went missing.

Her case remains unsolved. Now Teddy’s father, Mark, has killed himself.

Unbeknownst to Mark’s family, he had been active in a Reddit community fixated on Angie, and Teddy can’t help but fall down the same rabbit hole.

Teddy’s investigation quickly gets her in hot water with her gun-nut boyfriend, her long-lost half brother, and her colleagues at the prestigious high school where she teaches English. Further complicating matters is Teddy’s growing obsession with Mickey, a charming amateur sleuth who is eerily keen on helping her solve the case.

Bewitched by Mickey, Teddy begins to lose her moral compass. As she struggles to reconcile new information with old memories, her erratic behavior reaches a fever pitch, but she won’t stop until she finds Angie—or destroys herself in the process.

A biting critique of the internet’s voyeurism, Rabbit Hole is an outrageous and heart-wrenching character study of a mind twisted by grief—and a pulse-pounding mystery that’s as addictive as a late-night Reddit binge.

“A pitch-black story about ambiguous loss, and a blazingly feminist take on the self-destructive pull of the internet. And it’s poignant. And it’s unflinching. Kate Brody is a star.”—Kate Reed Petty, author of True Story

This book was recommended by a Maine newspaper. I found much of the book was completely unnecessary, resulting in boring. Every chapter seemed to head down a rabbit hole, so if that was the whole point it succeeded, but it left me wondering why I took the time to read it.

Strange book

Very disturbed characters. Didn’t get the plot. I don’t think I would recommend this book.

Sad story, sad characters, just a depressing listen. Should have realized this was not going to end happily.

Super depressing

Some great parallel themes running through this story-complications of sibling love in second families, homes broken by drug addiction and irretrievable loss but the author tries to tie it all off a bit too neatly so I gave it 4’s across the board instead of a 5.
Maybe because the narrator is so unreliable (understandably so given her situation), the cozy ending rings false to me.
A great relationship with an aging family dog is shown beautifully and that alone is enough for me to highly recommend this one.

Interesting but Confounding

Wasn’t a big fan of this one. Story fell short and got very weird in some parts. Super depressing. The twist was extremely predictable and hardly a twist. The whole time I was questioning why the main character just randomly befriended this girl who seemed sus from the start and then just immediately felt comfortable with her, ignoring all the very obvious red flags. Narrator was very monotone and had a thick midwestern accent but was supposed to be New England based. Wasn’t a big fan.

Depressing and weird.
