Escaping the Academy amidst a full-scale magical conflict, Terhese becomes a fugitive. Her secret exposed, she is compelled to abandon her friends to their fate. Unexpectedly rescued by the inhabitants of Devil's Trench, Terhese is taken back to land where a motley crew of Ràej takes her in. They fight alongside her against Officials and strive to safely escort her to their hidden sanctuary. The underground Ràej group's leaders take charge, orchestrating training and strategic planning for the impending rebellion. Jensen, with whom Terhese shares a growing affection for, assists her in learning her powers and educates her about their shared Ràej heritage.
A mysterious visitor arrives at the Ràej safe house and immediately recognizes Terhese as the rightful Queen. This revelation sparks a heated dispute over the rightful claim to the throne, as well as the question of who possesses not only the power but also the wisdom to wield it. Soon after, the Ràej initiate an attack to demolish the First Pebble in the Northern Plains, signaling the start of the revolution and showcasing the vast extent of Terhese's powers.
