He won't take no for an answer...

When surprise flowers appear from a secret admirer on her fifteenth birthday, Brandi, the gangly, undeveloped, freshman cheerleader thinks it's too good to be true. While her fellow cheerleaders think that Jerome, the mysterious new guy, is perfect, Brandi believes this is finally her ticket into the cheerleader clique.

Jerome seems right out of a romance novel: tall, dark, handsome, drives a hot car and is the running back on the varsity football team. Her classmates say he's rich and the cheerleaders all want to go out with him. But it's clear that Jerome only has eyes for Brandi.

But who is this guy really? What's his story? Why did he move from a bigger school his junior year to her small Texas school in the middle of nowhere? Why does he know her entire school schedule, where she sits and who her friends are? Does he already know where she lives?

Queen of the Nerds is a Mean Girls cautionary tale intertwined with a gripping #Metoo secret. A compelling, nail-biter; unlike any teenaged survivor story you've ever listened to; because it's true, every word.

This book is a powerful story of triumph over adversity in the aftermath of a toxic high school relationship. The character development unfolds beautifully, capturing the journey of finding one’s voice and embracing personal truth. It explores themes of regret, the ways our minds can mislead us, and the universal struggles teens face when torn between speaking their truth and pleasing their peers. As a professional and school counselor, I highly recommend this book for mature pre-teens who can handle difficult stories involving sexual assault, as well as for teens and young adults who may deeply relate to the experiences portrayed. Even adults will find themselves reflecting on their own high school years and the delicate balance between fitting in with the “cool crowd” and standing up for what’s right.

Awesome autobiographical novel of teen years

Hi there, fellow Huffmanite here. I just finished listening to your audible book, Queen of the Nerds. Thank you for putting your story out there. I moved to Huffman in '89-'90 in my 8th grade year. I came from an all black, inner city, Houston school in North Forest ISD. I was a poor white girl, strolling in with my innocently spoken slang ebonics because it's what I lived. Those things about me didn't gain me many friends as a new comer to Huffman Middle School. I never quite found my click and was just a friendly floater. I was a junior when my cousin, also a student at Hargrave High Schoool, unexpectedly & tragically passed away. I shut down and refused to be apart of anything "Huffman" after the way she was treated by most classmates just because her skin color was different. Fitting in and feeling accepted by your peers is one of the trickiest hurdles of our youth. Everyone struggles with it to some degree yet we don't always see others suffering because we mask so well. Your story brought me right back to those hallways of Hargrave Highschool. I can almost pick out your face in the hallways and want to know if it's too late to be friends. 😉

Brandi Rogers, I see you. And thank you. ❤️

Queen of the nerds
This book is amazing!! I completely relate to this book because my junior year in high school I was bullied really bad by a group of popular girls. It hurt everyday having to deal with it. I’ve been stalked, mentally and physically abused. The trauma you have to overcome is immeasurable. The author was so strong and courageous. She knew exactly how to come back against the rumors or questions from her classmates. She stood strong!! There were parts of this book that really hit me where I broke down and cried. My heart goes out to the author for the trauma that she endured at such a young age of 15. Her innocence was ripped away from her by a guy who stalked and harassed her and never took accountability for his unwanted vicious actions. This is a sincere read and hits you in the heart. This book is for anyone who suffered any kind of trauma as a teen or who wants to support and understand what victims go through. The message is strong and endearing. I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed. The message is inspiring and I hope young readers will take away from it what I did. The author does an outstanding job narrating.

A brilliant Message/This Queen overcame

This was a difficult listen, but an incredibly important one. Especially for teen girls. It’s well written, and beautifully performed, which doesn’t surprise me at all. The author has always been extremely talented.

There are a few technical issues: some repeated chapters (36–37 repeat three times), and the audio could use a bit more balance. I may have missed a chapter due to the repetition.

Still, the story itself is raw and courageous. As someone who grew up in the same town and knew the author in high school theater, it hits differently. Small towns can hide a lot.

I’m proud of the author for telling her story. It took guts and it deserves to be heard.

A brave, powerful story that needs to be heard

This book broke my heart and healed it in the same breath. Reverie Fey tells her story with such courage—laying bare the pain of assault, the cruelty of bullying, and the loneliness of being different. But it’s also a story of hope, finding your people, and reclaiming your voice. It’s gripping, emotional, and impossible to put down. A must-read for anyone who’s ever felt like an outsider, and for everyone who needs a reminder of the strength it takes to survive and thrive!

Long Live The Queen!!!
