When the Ben Lomond Theater's best set-painter, Mac, seccumbs to summer heat in an attic locked from the outside, Josephine and her two friends take over the pro-bono time sensitive work. Naturally curious, Josephine explores the attic and questions many of the Ben Lomond residents. Mac's widow, Daisy, has a hard time dealing with the loss of her husband plus her adopted son has moved out of the house. He is a very special young man who creates potions from nature's bounty. Someone is after his formulas. Do the medicines have anything to do with Mac's death or was it a man on the Water Board, pushing to build a dam that Mac was dead set against? Daisy's niece is threatened anonymously, so Josephine must step up her snooping, poking about and bothering everyone techniques.
