Punk Ethos and the Investigation of Haunted Sites

Contemporary ghost hunt is in a state of crisis. For more than a decade, the paranormal aspect of the ‘hunt’ has become a normalization of behaviors, practices, and tech scan/measurement. These ‘habit memories’ have not advanced the field of ghost research. It is time for a change. One alternative is to approach fieldwork with a different attitude, a ‘punk ethos’. This approach is discussed here. It is hoped that this will bring new insights, creativity, and experimentation in the field that has become such a ‘normal paranormal’ exercise as ‘edutainment’.
