Acerca de esta escucha
Princess describes the life of Princess Sultana Al Sa'ud, a princess in the royal house of Saudi Arabia. Hidden behind her black veil, she is a prisoner, jailed by her father, her husband, and her country.
Sultana tells of appalling oppressions, everyday occurrences that in any other culture would be seen as shocking human rights violations: 13-year-old girls forced to marry men five times their age; young women killed by drowning, stoning, or isolation in the "women's room". Princess is a testimony to a woman of indomitable spirit and courage, and you will never forget her or her Muslim sisters.
A New York Times best-seller, Princess was named one of the 500 Great Books by Women Since 1300. It was also an Alternate Selection of the Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Club and a Reader's Digest Selection.

Historia
In early 2019, after three years of careful planning, Rahaf Mohammed finally escaped her abusive family in Saudi Arabia—but made it only to Bangkok before being stripped of her passport. If forced to return home, she was sure she would be killed, like other rebel women in her country. As men pounded at the door of her barricaded hotel room, she opened a Twitter account. The teenager reached out to the world, and the world answered—she gained 45,000 followers in one day, and those followers helped her seek asylum in the West. Now Rahaf Mohammed tells her remarkable story in her own words.

This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. Historia
An investigative journalist uncovers a hidden custom that will transform your understanding of what it means to grow up as a girl. In Afghanistan, a culture ruled almost entirely by men, the birth of a son is cause for celebration and the arrival of a daughter is often mourned as misfortune. A bacha posh (literally translated from Dari as dressed up like a boy) is a third kind of child - a girl temporarily raised as a boy and presented as such to the outside world.

Nadia Murad was born and raised in Kocho, a small village of farmers and shepherds in Northern Iraq. A member of the Yazidi community, she and her brothers and sisters lived a quiet life. Nadia had dreams of becoming a history teacher or opening her own beauty salon. On August 15, 2014, when Nadia was just 21 years old, this life ended. Islamic State militants massacred the people of her village, executing men who refused to convert to Islam and women too old to become sex slaves.

In the early summer of 2014, Farida Khalaf was a typical Yazidi teenager living with her parents and three brothers in her village in the mountains of Northern Iraq. Historia
With vivid story-telling, extensive historical research, and on-the-ground reporting, Ghattas dispels accepted truths about a region she calls home. She explores how Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shia Iran, once allies and twin pillars of US strategy in the region, became mortal enemies after 1979. She shows how they used and distorted religion in a competition that went well beyond geopolitics. Feeding intolerance, suppressing cultural expression, and encouraging sectarian violence from Egypt to Pakistan, the war for cultural supremacy led to many events.

very interesting look
I found this a good read. not many surprises to me, regarding the misuse and abuse of women by the hands of men with power and autonomy. but the story itself is shocking, as well as fascinating and keeps interest. I wanted more just as it ended. 😊👍🏼

What a devastating look at Saudi life.
this was very well written and very sad and I found myself gasping at times at the cruelty that they had to endure in the very recent past. I can only hope and pray that things are better for Saudi Arabian women today.

This Should Be Required Reading 4 Every 'Feminist'
Any additional comments?
Barbarians! Little girls married off to men in their 50's & 60's. Flogging, stoning and 'rituals' I don't want to revisit. Islam: "The Religion of Peace" - my foot!
Whining women of the West who complain of their 'oppression,' 'sexism' and other 'ism's' - count your blessings & kiss the ground beneath your feet!

Absolutely loved the book. This is my second time reading it. I read it first as a hard copy and now as an audiobook. The story is captivating and keeps you glued to the story. Sultana was very lucky to have survived her events given the way her family/people practice. I will definitely be sharing with family.

Interesting & poignant
My husband & I have lived in this country for several years. It is interesting to hear a royal princess tell her view of the same country/cities we experienced. Her life is different, yet much the same as most women there. Though, she has drivers & servants.
The people are kind & caring. I was helped in the suq several times by local women when choosing thread or fabric.
I enjoyed this story very much.

Greater understanding of Saudi Arabia
This book captured my attention. Hard to stop listening to it. Difficult to hear what the women of Saudi Arabia endure.
Performance is pretty stiff - sounds like a computer, otherwise this is a worthwhile listen!
