Resumen del Editor

"An exquisitely powerful anthology... gripping scenarios that are hard to put down and unforgettable literary productions." (Midwest Book Review)

Ever see a photo of a place that never existed?

From the creative team behind the award-winning Shadows And Teeth horror series comes a reality-bending anthology.

The places in this book are shunned, abandoned, and forgotten. They do not exist, and yet here you will find the stories of people who have gone and survived to tell their tales. These are the postcards from the void, frightful evidence of places that should not be and yet exist in our nightmares. Should you dare to venture into these blighted places, remember: Don't talk to strangers, don't stray far from home, and never, ever go in alone.

Long, but largely satisfying collection

This one is a tough one to rate because many of the stories were 5 star worthy (Circle Of Evil, Carcer, Pennsylvania, Four Beasts Gate, China, and my favorite, Barker, Alberta), and those that run on a bit too long for their (or your) own good, (Spirit, Ohio is the worst offender). Some are memorable for their plot, others for their characterization, or just good old fashioned writing. And then there's the downright horrible that could have been cut from the over-long running time (the inclusion of Springland Meadows, Virginia - the worst story in the collection - is the immediate standout.)

This is why the book is so hard to rate. It's rather hit-or-miss (though, thankfully, more hit than miss). But the low points are so low that it drags the entire book down overall. I think the editor made a wise choice in trying to appeal to as many readers as possible, but in doing so, many stories totally fall flat when they fail to grab your interest. I was determined to finish all of the stories, which made it an unbearably slog in a few places, but those that I did enjoy, I enjoyed a lot.

I'll admit to losing my patience over the last two hours, which may have tarnished my enjoyment of the last couple of stories (I stand behind my disdain for Springland Meadows), both otherwise it's an enjoyable read, best suited for a late night in front of a fire.

Placeholder review / warning - will update

I like this audio book so far, however there's an issue that I wish Audible / Amazon would do more to address. The print version of this book (apparently) has a vintage image or images for every story. There's no way to access these images online or through audible or amazon without separately buying the book.

It'd be great if a tech company with tons of multi-media devices, phone aps, websites, etc, could figure out a way to give their customers access to images which are part of a work of fiction. Plus I did want to warn other readers before buying that you will be missing a part of the overall "experience" of the print version due to the lack of the vintage pictures.

Exceptionally gripping.

I found it terribly difficult to set down. I had no warning of the affects of these stories. I loved everyone of them. Please do it again.

So-so....

It's foliage not "foli-age". Honestly, the number of mispronounced words grated on me after a while. One would think that the errors would have been caught during edit & re-recorded....

Review

Stories weren't as scary as I thought they would be. Narrator didn't hold my attention with the reading.

So So

There were only one or two stories that really held my interest. The rest of the stories we boring or confusing. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone.

Insulting

So awful. Truly this and guy smith’s other wad of schlock prey upon the desperate nature of the horror addict. These collections make me feel bad about my literature consumption needs.

There are better horror anthologies available

I wanted to like it but unfortunately I was a bit underwhelmed. The voice actor's performances were solid though.

Bland and formulaic

There are a couple of gems here, but for the most part, once you’ve read two or three stories, you will know the plot and pace of the rest
