Dr. Caleb Maddox is a San Francisco toxicologist studying the chemical effects of pain. For those who like detective procedural, spy and thriller fiction, please be warned that this is more of a bodice-ripper plus horror/ghost tale. And there's a GREAT deal of "Oh, we should go hide in that old garage where they keep the chainsaws." Humbug.
