Resumen del Editor

Lifelong fans and interested newcomers will love this stunning biography of Duran Duran by the best-selling author of Gold Dust Woman and Hammer of the Gods.

In Please Please Tell Me Now, best-selling rock biographer Stephen Davis tells the story of Duran Duran, the quintessential band of the 1980s. Their pretty boy looks made them the stars of fledgling MTV, but it was their brilliant musicianship that led to a string of number one hits. By the end of the decade, they had sold 60 million albums; today, they've sold over 100 million albums - and counting.

Davis traces their roots to the austere 1970s British malaise that spawned both the Sex Pistols and Duran Duran - two seemingly opposite music extremes. Handsome, British, and young, it was Duran Duran that headlined Live Aid, not Bob Dylan or Led Zeppelin. The band moved in the most glamorous circles: Nick Rhodes became close with Andy Warhol, Simon LeBon with Princess Diana, and John Taylor dated quintessential British bad girl Amanda De Cadanet. With timeless hits like "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Girls on Film", "Rio", "Save a Prayer", and the best-selling James Bond theme in the series' history, "A View to Kill", Duran Duran has cemented its legacy in the pop pantheon - and with a new album and a worldwide tour on the way, they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Featuring exclusive interviews with the band, Please Please Tell Me Now offers a definitive account of one of the last untold sagas in rock and roll history - a treat for diehard fans, new admirers, and music lovers of any age.

Great Story, needed a better narrator

No offense to Michael Butler Murray…great voice…but not for this book. He sounded like a young Casey Kasem…probably would have worked for a US band from the 60s and 70s but not Duran Duran. I found it grating in an otherwise well written book…If you love Duran Duran…try John Taylor’s In the Pleasure Groove…MUCH better!

Great book

Even as a seasoned Duranie I learned a lot - surprised at home much I didn’t know. ! Love how this book really took you back and painted those early 80 years. I def “binge listened” the book!

Duran Duran makes my heart happy!

I still listen to Duran Duran in the car all the time. I saw them with a friend of mine in Boston at a small venue called the Orpheum. They sounded amazing, and fan girl 100% John Taylor is still hot as hell. I was only 12 ish when they exploded and I claimed John as my husband. That did not work out so much, but I still love the entire band. Super talented!

This Duranie was pleased!

I thought I heard and knew it all about Duran Duran. Nope nope nope. I very much enjoyed the backstory on all the points I did know. This was a great walk down memory lane that had me Googling photos non-stop for perspective. I loved how the book journey continued up until present day. Makes me miss my favorite band!

Was like reminiscing with long ago friends of mine

Definitely one of my favorite audiobooks to date! Lots of stuff I knew about already as I was a fan from the beginning but still lots of stuff I didn’t. Was like reminiscing with long ago friends of mine. Definitely worth a credit.

Loved it! A must for Duran fans

A fairly detailed and captivating overview of one the biggest band of the 80s.

Probably nothing new here for die hard fans. But who knows? And more casual fans well get a complete picture of the band that melded rock, pop, dance, fashion, and sex into multi-platinum record sales.

Duranie circa 1983

Learned things I didn't even learn from John’s audiobook. Would have preferred an English narrator.

Inspirational Sad Hopeful

Big Duran Duran fan so, I couldn't wait to get into their story. It's a great story of how 2 guys who, didn't play instruments wanted to form one of the biggest rock bands in history. A story worth listening to.

Disappointing narration

Narrator not great. He didn't know how to pronounce Gloucester. I wish they'd used a British narrator.

The Story You (Probably) Already Know

Band members meet.
New band struggles.
Band rises to fame.
Band declines.and members leave.
But fortunately, band eventually perseveres! Stephen Davis does a fine job illustrating the broad strokes of Duran Duran, but I was left wanting more personal detail. Michael Butler Murray does a fine job on the narration, but sounds like a smarmy Richard Jeni when attempting to recite actual quotes. I believe he's generally a talented narrator and voice actor overall. No regrets listening to this book, but was left feeling unsettled at the end.
