They say the first taste of addiction often comes disguised as relief, and for Kevin Murray, that disguise was an innocent-looking white pill. Pills and Me: My Spiral into Addiction is an unflinchingly raw and personal account of a young man’s descent into opioid addiction—a journey from curiosity to survival in a world ravaged by a seemingly harmless but relentless beast.
As Kevin tells it, his addiction didn’t begin with a reckless choice. It began with exhaustion, loneliness, and a desire to feel anything other than the crushing weight of his circumstances. From his first Percocet in a flooded basement to the countless pills that followed, Kevin’s story pulls back the curtain on the gritty, complex layers of addiction. He confronts the dark places addiction took him—estranged relationships, near-daily despair, and a never-ending need to feel “okay.” Told in his own voice, Kevin’s story isn’t a glamorous or sanitized tale; it’s an honest look at what it means to lose control, fight for a second chance, and claw back one’s life.
For anyone who's been touched by addiction, whether directly or indirectly, Pills and Me provides a window into the battles that take place behind closed doors. This isn’t just Kevin’s story; it’s a testament to the resilience of those who refuse to surrender to the dark. Readers will come away with a deep understanding of the pull of addiction, the strength it takes to confront it, and the flicker of hope that can, at long last, spark a path toward recovery.

I think this is something that should be taught the cycle, the sickness, how bad it really is ,how it has ability to change your morals and what you care about, I believe if the truth told raw in younger age would really scare anyone with sense, my only dislike was the AI voice

💯 kept my intense interest. His life experiences filled with ups, downs, & everything in between, truly hits the hearts of absolutely anyone. Whether addiction has been a factor in life or not. His struggles told are real, honest, & full of raw emotional truth. They remain relatable to everyone who has hit a rock bottom of some sort, drug related or otherwise, at some point in life. The AI narration threw me a few times pertaining to certain pronunciation’s i.e. “OD”. However, I will admit that I’m still pretty impressed by the realistic voice inflections & overall quality of the narrative performance. This book has touched on every facet of emotion & is absolutely in a league of its own when it comes to pure honesty & refreshing originality. It was definitely not your everyday, generic story of addiction.
Relatable to me as well as to all who do not wear rose colored glasses. KUDOS!

Refreshingly honest & original…..no holds barred
