Piece of Work is the story of a spicy Jewish girl who tried to become a sweet Christian wife—and failed miserably. Caught between expectations from two opposing worldviews, Danielle sought love like an addict chasing a drug. After years of tumbling through life searching for that missing piece, she finally found true love, forgiveness, and empathy within herself. With renewed faith, she faced breast cancer and became a nurse in the middle of a pandemic. She came to understand that her tumultuous life and complicated identity had left her with invaluable gifts: the ability to see both sides, the understanding of what it feels like to be broken, and the compassion to build up others. She discovered that we are all a piece of work, a work in progress, and a work of art, all at the same time.

Unexpectedly relatable

Beautiful book with so many relatable circumstances. I wasn't expecting the religious journey the author goes through and found this is what I loved so much about it. It's real, raw and powerful .

Like Talking to a Friend

Danielle’s story, read aloud by her, is like hearing a friend tell you a story. She is a natural narrator, very down to earth and normal, with a trustworthiness in her voice that sounds like a person who anyone could talk to and be honest with. Her messages of forgiveness and understanding one another come across in her pleasant and nonjudgmental tone. Hearing her speak of open-mindedness and diversity with her own varied personal background and experiences gives a believability to her words. It is very easy to picture and imagine all that she says, and her goal of being understood by the reader is achieved with great success. The story is enjoyable and relatable, and hearing the author tell it herself is truly the best way to take it in.

Oh, the beautiful messiness of life!

This engaging memoir is a solid four-star read! Author Danielle Tantone, with great candor, boldly explores all of the beautiful messiness of life, revealing both her triumphs and her struggles. And while the more self-destructive attributes of the story are very sad, all is delivered with a sprinkling of wry humor, a strong dose of encouragement and, ultimately, a message of hope through faith. Danielle's story is unique and interesting, but it is also very relatable. And I have no doubt that, no matter what challenges readers have faced in navigating life, they will identify with the very human experience that is at the heart of the story.

Danielle is an inspiration and I am so very thrilled to have been given this chance to read her story. Or listen to her story as I purchased the audio book. She is honest, and that is incredibly hard to find these days. To hear that someone else might be experiencing the same real life trauma and issues that you yourself are experiencing is both calming and inspiring. I hope that she continues to right and share with us.
