Resumen del Editor

Calvin Trillin, who has something witty and insightful to say about any topic, has distinguished himself in fields of writing that are remarkably diverse. For 30 years, he has reported on the American scene for The New Yorker. His memoir of the 1950s, Remembering Denny, was a New York Times best seller. But he is perhaps best known for his humor - in his syndicated newspaper column, in the "Shouts and Murmurs" section of The New Yorker, in his antic adventures as a "happy cater", and in his frequent appearances with Johnny Carson and David Letterman.

This original recording - his first - features Trillin at his most uproarious, reading from his own articles and books. Wonderfully funny and full of surprises, this is a thoroughly satisfying, eminently entertaining, and beautifully crafted collection.

Wonderful, warm, wry gem.

Nothing like an author who can laugh at himself, express such affection for his his wife and kids, and amusement at world at large.
This charming collection will catch you off guard and have you laughing unexpectedly.

wise, witty, w/perfect piano interludes to match

Mr. Trillin! Delectable as always, sir! And with interludes conceived and played by ☆Harry Huff☆ (AUDIBLE: take note! He's uncredited here, and deserves to have his scintillating partnership celebrated!) as a perfect foil to Trillion's always acerbic and astute observations, stories, and pronouncements, this is a deeply satisfying way to spend a few hours with a justly celebrated wit. Trillin's delivery is Gobi-dry, an inimitable combo of Midwestern reserve and NYC cynicism. I guarantee multiple snickers and at least one good snort every 10 minutes or so. (Beware of consuming beverages here, gentle listener. Be ever vigilant of your windpipe.) And as a bonus, try to name that tune in Harry Huff's brilliantly apropos variations, which add compact, lively and sophisticated punctuation to each piece.

Recorded before the interwebs were more than a gleam in Mr. Gore's eye, this audiobook will shower you with both timeless and era-particular vignettes to gladden the heart and sharpen the regard for this comic paragon.

Trillin Fan

Calvin Trillin reads his own prose in inimitable style. Each sentence has triple meaning - the words, the clever inferences, and finally the nuances from his voice. Worth listening to at least three times.

Funny and well written

I was happy to find this as I've already listened to many other greats like David Sedaris, and am always looking for more humor. This didn't disapoint.
