Very thought-provoking, if rushed

Writing and intelligence that is markedly not human it is quite difficult. And it succeeded.

Gripping. This book grabs your attention right from the start!

This is the second book from this author i have read and can truly say I am an instant lifelong fan and can’t wait for more. The story initially leaves your jaw on the floor and then keeps you guessing as the mystery unfolds. Fans of fantasy, sci-fi and plausible fiction will be equally thrilled with the fast paced entertaining storyline! More please!

Interesting, but short.

An interesting concept with many possibilities that feels short and lacks closure. If there is a sequal, it should have been included in this book.

Lucky Find

I was looking for a new read and couldn't have been happier i found this one. the story was engaging and interesting and the performance was well done. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Awsome is not a strong enough word

A mix of Michael Crichton's Jurrasic Park and Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, read it.

Great Premise, Lots of Science with the Fiction

I enjoyed this book, has a few twists and the science part can get a bit long-winded, but was a lot of fun to work through.
Performance was outstanding, Nick Cracknell made each character and voice very distinct.
Definitely recommend this to fans of works like 'The Martian', 'The Core' and 'Deep Impact'.

An interesting thought experiment

In Permian, we are brought through a story which spans a number of different scientific concepts as it explores a fascinating genetics and evolutionary thought experiment. I really appreciated the unique style of humor that the author has, and felt the characters were well-complemented by it.

I think this narrator was a suitable choice overall for the storyline and concept, however I found myself disappointed in the caliber of some of the accents, particularly for those of Asian descent. That said, I would still choose to listen to other books performed by this narrator that highlight his skillset more.

All in all this was an interesting and enjoyable read—it’s perfect for when you want something heavy but don’t want to invest the time (and brainpower) needed for a longer book.

Excellent Writer and Narrator!

Having read a sincere amount of off-the-beaten trail sci-fi I can say that this book touches on many of the fantastic elements that sci-fi brings to mind and heart for me. Maintaining its originality it contains subtle notes of Ted Chiang's "Story of Your Life", and that is an absolute compliment. If you've seen the movie "Arrival", you know what I am talking about. If you're fortunate enough to appreciate the sci-fi genre and have a day of transit, it is short, well written, and filled with wonder. 10/10

P.S I'm starting "At the Pace of Man" next, totally impressed.

Very Odd but Enjoyable!

The book has a Jurassic Park vibe to it, however I had to take one star away because I got lost between almost every "installment". I honestly hope that there will be a second book based on the offspring of Ma'am.

The narrator was fantastic and possibly one of my new favorite narrators. Very easy to listen to.

Interesting premise but....

.... it was a labor to finish . You could tell the author was trying to channel the hard sci-fi styling of Larry Niven but it came across like a technical manual for the most part. There wasn't enough development in the alienness of the creature's intelligence, some of its biology was a bit too "out there" and matched poorly with the hard science layered into the story. The characters and many of the analogies the author used felt very forced. I didn't hate the story it was the unpolished parts that really dragged it down to being a chore to complete.
