E.I. and healthy parenting

This book on parenting, covering everything from birth through to the late teenage years, centres specifically on the use of emotional intelligence (E.I.) as a guiding principle. For those unfamiliar with the concept, it serves as a solid introduction, offering concise and clear, albeit brief, explanations of the 5 core components. In other words understanding your own emotions, noticing how you're feeling, and recognising how those feelings affect your behaviour and reactions with your children. I appreciated the author’s reasoning, and fully agreed with the central message.....that emotionally sensitive parenting is essential for raising well adjusted, self-aware children.
However, despite the strong foundation, I felt some sections would have benefited from deeper exploration. Certain concepts were introduced but not fully developed, and a few of the practical examples felt too brief or surface-level. That being said, the book compensates for this by providing a helpful list of additional resources at the end, allowing the reader to delve deeper into specific areas of interest. Overall, it’s a great starting point—ideal for those new to EI, especially in parenting, and it definitely resonated with my ideas of healthy parenting practice.
I found the narration different, but interesting, with an accent that kept me wondering, but not off putting.
