What happened to the Gardeners Daughter?

Elsie has been raised in luxury, the precious daughter and cherished sister. Tragedy takes her home and parents, and then an awful truth is revealed. Her identity is a sham.

Rejected by her ‘Uncle’, unacknowledged by her birth family, she turns to the workhouse where her ladylike behaviour is met with derision and scorn.

It would seem though that she is due for some luck, and when she is taken into the Montrose house as a governess, it finally appears that her life has turned a corner. The young ladies in her care are a delight, and their older brother is charming. Perhaps he’s a bit too charming.

Having been warned against him, she finds herself succumbing to his allure. And that lands her in more hot water than ever, when she finds herself packed off to the Huntley Household, a remote house of fear, where the master of the house rules through intimidation and fits of drunken violence.

Now Elsie is in fear of not only her reputation, already tarnished, but of her very life.
