Resumen del Editor

After Mary, a South Carolina cattleman’s daughter, marries William, a gentleman from Washington, DC, they embark on what appears to be a life of perfect harmony in Florida. That is until outside forces bear down on their happiness.

Both survived an earlier Indian war, but can they and their children survive a war that engulfs an entire nation? This narrative historical nonfiction book tells their story of prosperity, Florida in the Civil War, and the devastation of their homeland.

"From Harmony to Hostilities" is a captivating story of Mary Walker Andrews, a strong-willed woman who perseveres through life's trials and tribulations. Set against the backdrop of Antebellum Florida, this tale follows Mary's journey from 1845 to the beginning of the Civil War in 1861.

The state of Florida was a backwater region on the southern edge of the American frontier and Mary, with her five children, two of her own and three of her husband’s from a previous marriage, had to overcome economic hardships, multiple pregnancies, and the devastation of war. Follow the story of Mary and her husband William (a lawman and railroad agent) as they navigate the ups and downs of Florida's first economic boom and bust.

“Palmetto Pioneers” is reminiscent of “A Land Remembered,” but the Palmetto Pioneer’s Florida story begins thirty years earlier. This is the second book in a series of three.
