A Practical Guide to Sermon Preparation and Delivery

An adequate preaching and teaching ministry is essential to the growth and spiritual development of a congregation. Any lack or ministerial deficiency in this area will impoverish congregations and stifle the spiritual growth of individual members of the church. Therefore learning the art of sermon preparation and delivery becomes a crucial part of the life of every minister of God. There are however, two distinct aspects involved in preaching: Firstly, the divine and secondly, the human. Homiletics is the study of the human aspect. Homiletics involves the study of everything related to the art of preparing and preaching sermons. Good sermons (communication) are birthed out of good communion (companionship) and fellowship. Nevertheless, over twenty years of ministry and particularly running Bible schools has brought me into contact with thousands of pastors and church leaders; most of whom have never had the opportunity of any formal training in the art of preaching and teaching. They have not been able to study the principles of preaching; consequently, their abilities and skills in this area are largely undeveloped. It is for these fine men and even those who have had the privilege of formal training but still need a practical guide that this practical training manual, “PRINCIPLES OF HOMILETICS: A Practical Guide to Sermon Preparation and Delivery” is written.
