PORNOGRAPHY-- cATHOLIC BUT CONTROVERSIAL

First, “Pornography: YES or NO?” That is the question we all face today, as in Hamlet’s famous soliloquy: “To be, or not to be, that is the question/:Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer/ The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,/Or to take arms against a sea of troubles/And by opposing end them.”
SECOND, a claim: Not all pornography is bad, immoral, or sinful.
THIRD, a DISCLAIMER: I mean exactly what the word “catholic” without the capital letter “C.” The word “catholic” simply means “universal.” Therefore, “CATHOLIC” IN THE TITLE OF THE BOOK DOES NOT DENOTE MEMBERS OF THE SO-CALLED “ROMAN CATHOLIC” community of the West, who are also avid consumers of pornography like the rest of the world, which while devouring pornography feigns moral horror and condemnation of it; but the term “Roman Catholic” was popularized in the English-speaking world only in the seventeenth century, to refer to the Christians of the West, who accept the Pope of Rome as the head of the Christian Church. I would argue here, though, that it was the anti-iconoclastic Catholic Church that even encouraged the rise of paintings in the Western world during the Middle Ages, thereby the rise of visual representations of the human body and the dramatic art form etc. However, today pornography remains taboo in religious circles run by male priests and preachers and in other autocratic societies. This book will try to explore the controversial nature of pornography, which is tolerated all over the world. So we ask, can Christian religion also tolerate limited acceptance of pornography? The answer is YES, because virtue stands in the middle and we should all avoid extremes in matters of received faith and morals, preached by traditionalists.
