He was a rookie with a bright future

Until that one pitch came along....

One game, one pitch. That’s all it took to change the course of Tommy Layton’s life forever. One minute he’s a rookie phenom burning it up in the major leagues and contending for Rookie of the Year. A split-second later, he’s on the injured list, deeply depressed, and trying to figure out how he’s going to get back everything he’s lost.

Lucy Valente understands all too well because she’s lost everything, too—her parents, her career, her money, and, most of all, her sense of hope. A chance encounter ignites a fire for both of them, but they’re stuck in the lowest valleys of their lives, so the timing couldn’t be worse. Lucy can’t seem to embrace the love and happiness she knows Tommy represents. And while he wants to give her the space she needs, he also realizes their chance to be together is quickly disappearing. How can they find their happily-ever-after when it feels like their happily-right-now is impossible?

This book can be read as a standalone, but the reading experience would be enhanced by reading Curveball: A Love Story first, as the stories intertwine.

Readers who want stories that pack an emotional punch, but who love happily-ever-afters that couples truly earn, will love this book!

The poor audio performance ruined the book. The story may have been good but the reading was terrible.

Poor performance

The story dragged on for too long. It was repetitive and didn’t keep my interest. The descriptions of the setting was good but too much!

The voice was too robotic

No emotion or inflection in narrators tone. Didn’t even finish the book because of it.

Did not enjoy computer generated narrator.

I enjoyed the "voice" giving the reading of this book. For a "virtual voice," it was impressively high quality. It sounded very human, and a good human narration too. This is Book 2 in the Curveball Incident series. I loved the first one, and the wedding novella (Book 1.5) that gives us the wedding drama around Zach & Emma, so I was excited to read Tommy's story. Tommy is the poor soul who finds himself on the other end of that wretched curveball. In the first book, we learn that Zach ultimately has no regret about happened to him because it led him to Emma; and here with Tommy it feels like another "out of adversity" kind of story. Tommy didn't know how much he had to learn and how far he could fall in love until he met Lucy, a heroine of great depth. I was immediately struck by Lucy's story. This author has a gift for not only making baseball interesting (to a person who previously had very little interest in the sport) but also a gift for making well-rounded, relatable characters.

High quality, engrossing
