Out of Bounds is a story about that one friend of your older brother… You know, the hot one every sibling seemed to have. That unbelievably gorgeous but oh-so-out-of-my-league friend. The fuel for every hot and heavy self-gratifying moment of your life.
Claire Dover was no different. Her crush was Bryce Stanton. Bryce was the captain of the high school hockey team. A senior. And yes, drop-dead gorgeous. Bryce played alongside her older brother Eli, and Claire never missed a game her entire freshman year. High school has since passed, and now Claire finds herself attending the same college as Eli and Bryce. She had always deemed herself unworthy of this particular hockey God, but little did Claire know, she was his ultimate goal.

Clocking in at just over two hours, this is a short and very sweet novella about young love crushes that are finally declared, leading to a very satisfying HEA. There's no miscommunication or drama, and just the right amount of spice for two people starting to lean into adulthood. Given the volume of romance throughout the whole spectrum, this was a sweet little palate cleanser and I enjoyed it very much.
Autumn Mercer's narration was a delight from start to finish. Her male voices are great - her lower register hits just right without going into any overt gravel. You know you're listening to a male character's POV and dialogue, and it's smoothly done. Speaking as an Australian, I can say that her accent is also great to listen to. I have no clue where she's from but it's a soft accent that to my ear could be from anywhere, and it made it all the easier to slip into the story.
All in all, this is a story that's as sweet and satisfying as a slice of pie.
