Resumen del Editor

This could be the most important audiobook you'll listen to this year. It isn't another war story. It is an audiobook about people, and it contains the personal stories of 100 Vietnam veterans who served there.

Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines from the late 1950s to 1975, we served from the Delta to the DMZ, and from Thailand to Yankee Station in the South China Sea. Infantry grunts, truck drivers, medics, helicopter pilots, nurses, clerk typists, jet pilots, mechanics, staff officers, repairmen, artillerymen, B-52 bombardiers, MPs, and doctors, we were black, white, and Hispanic, male and female. We were only in our teens and early 20s, but our stories continue to resonate through the years.

January 30 marked the 50th anniversary of the Tet Offensive, the seminal event of a war that dominated my generation and changed lives. Some of the men and women in this audiobook are true war heroes. Most were just trying to survive. If you were there, you understand. If you weren't, my hope is that through these stories, you will.

Breaking down the stereotypes, they tell who we were, the jobs we did, our memories of that time and place and how it changed us, and what we did after we came home.

More than 58,200 of us paid the ultimate price, but the war didn't end when the last US helicopter lifted off from the roof of the US Embassy in Saigon. It continues to take its ugly toll on many who did come home. Instead of bands and parades, we got PTSD and Agent Orange, diabetes, ischemic heart disease, neuropathy, leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, prostate cancer, and many more. As they say, "Vietnam: the gift that keeps on giving."

The best book about the Vietnam WarEver written

This was an incredible book.

Reading this book literally lets you experience every type of war experience of soldiers from mechanics to infantry men to bombardiers to the guy working at the morgue in Da Nang.

The incredible bravery and heroics that guys experienced and did over in Vietnam left me in awe of them.
It also opened my eyes to the fact that no matter what assignment a soldier had, there were no safe assignments in Vietnam due to the constant mortar attacks on bases and long range shelling that the enemy did.

I also have a new found respect for the nurses, USO, and Red Cross women that honorably served over there under extreme dangerous conditions.

Looking forward to reading volume two.

Debra Minton

My late husbandI proud US Marine, served two tours in Vietnam. He could never talk about it as he had PSTD. This book was so informative and I didn’t think I could be any prouder of my husband but these vets shared their stories, I am. Thank you so much, veterans and all involved in this book!

Great listen a must for any Vietnam war enthusiast

This book captures dozens of interviews from Veterans that lived the war but didn’t have enough to write a book about it but got to share their perspective of the war.

Compelling

I have both the audible and print additions. The narrator is great and changed his voice from veteran to veteran which made the stories more intriguing and realistic. This is a great book and audio recording.

An oral history of the Vietnam War

This compilation of 100 personal accounts of the Vietnam War brought a very human voice to what was an unpopular time in US history. As a Vietnam era veteran listening to each story made me think back to my own experiences off the coast of Vietnam onboard the USS Coral Sea in late 1973-1975. While it took quite a while to listen to these stories, I feel like the experience was personally worth every moment listening. Eddie Frierson did an excellent job giving each story an original voice.

A very important series!

I was 5 years old when America entered the Vietnam War, so I supposed I kind of grew up listening to news bulletins about it and was probably only fully understanding them by the time America left Vietnam.
This is such an important book about a forgotten, even hidden war.
Nobody wanted to acknowledge it, the soldiers were reviled when they came home, even veterans of previous wars shunned them.
I think it's only now that the war has become "cool" enough to portray it in movies, books and art, with people only now, thanking those veterans for their service.
This isn't a novel, it's a collection of stories of veterans of that conflict, not only American veterans either.
This is a collection of their stories and experiences told by THEM.
The narrator is very good, changing his voice as he tells each story, which makes it more immersive than a dry reading of stories and statistics.
I really enjoyed this book, apart from being informative, it was exhilarating, heartbreaking, funny, happy, sad , it was.rollercoaster ride of emotions for me.

Try to check out the authors Burke novels, excellent page turner's, with great characters!
